Meet the winners of the European Social Innovation Competition 2022

The 10th edition of the European Social Innovation Competition is now over. This year the competition put forward new ideas to design better, nicer and more sustainable living spaces. DG GROW Deputy Director General Hubert Gambs announced the winners in an award ceremony on 2 February.

date:  21/02/2023

Social innovation means changing the way we do things, changing our habits and behaviours to deliver value to society. With this objective in mind, ten years ago the Commission put forward the launch of the European Social Innovation Competition, counting on the financial support of Horizon Europe. The Competition can also count on the operational support of the European Innovation Council and Small and Medium Enterprises Executive Agency (EISMEA).

Now in its tenth edition, the purpose remains to inspire and support business ideas which experiment with “new ways of doing things” while tackling crucial societal and environmental challenges. For the 2022 edition of the Competition the theme chosen was: “The future of living, innovation for affordable, and sustainable housing districts”.

The three winning projects, selected by a jury of independent experts, are rewarded with a prize of 50.000 EUR each. They come from Italy, Spain and Austria and propose innovative solutions that have a potential to positively impact our society in the coming years.
