EIP High-Level Steering Group publishes position paper about the future of the EIP

date:  18/01/2018

The European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials has adopted a position paper on the way forward for raw materials. The EIP brings together stakeholders covering the breadth of the industrial value chain to provide high-level guidance on innovative approaches to challenges relating to raw materials.

The paper identifies the areas where raw materials can make an effective contribution to the renewed EU industrial policy strategy, with its three drivers of digitalisation, sustainability and innovation. Raw materials, especially critical raw materials, are essential to the competitiveness of all industrial value chains, within both the EU and the global economy. Primary and secondary raw materials have a growing role in many low-carbon technologies, in resource efficiency and circular economy, as well as in contributing to implementation of the UN's sustainable development goals.

The paper assesses the major challenges midway through this Commission's mandate and provides useful elements to be considered when preparing the next multiannual financial framework.
