High-level conference on the digital transformation of industries and enterprises

Bringing together over 25 high-level speakers and 200 participants, this conference in Brussels aims to convene leading business people, academics, and politicians to take stock and discuss EU-level measures to speed-up the digital transformation of European industries and enterprises. The event has been rescheduled for 16 February 2016.

date:  16/02/2016

venue:  The Egg

Organiser:  European Commission

It will be hosted by Elżbieta Bieńkowska, European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, with the participation of several MEPs and Chief Executives from European industry and business organisations.

Objectives

The conference will address the following thematic priorities:

  • The digital transformation of EU industries: speed of change, major opportunities, challenges and policy issues.
  • Intertwining of manufacturing and services: how technology and new business models transform industry and services sectors.
  • Digitalisation as an accelerator of the circular economy and energy efficiency: why and how?
  • Proposed policy measures and impact

Background

Digital technologies are driving what has been called the 'fourth industrial revolution'. They have the potential to transform EU industries and have a significant social, economic and environmental impact. In addition, disruptive business models and improved production processes, empowered by digital investments, will generate new international market opportunities. Using resources more efficiently, partly thanks to the uptake of digital technologies, will also bring new growth and job opportunities. To realise the full benefits of state-of-the-art technological and market developments however, concrete measures are needed for industries and enterprises.
