The Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform launched

The Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform is a joint initiative of the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions. It brings together stakeholders and experts of different policy areas, aiming at creating co-ownership, promoting collaboration, and fostering integrated solutions to maximise synergies with decarbonisation and post-COVID 19 recovery efforts. This newsletter will support the communication activities through the dissemination of the latest developments, news, events and knowledge related to the EU’s Zero Pollution Action Plan.

 
Plastic hospital waste can be recycled into new medical devices

Each year, hospitals in the Netherlands generate about 1.3 million kilograms of plastic waste from polypropylene wrapping paper on surgical instruments. Researchers have suggested that this waste could be turned into new medical devices. They recovered surgical wrapping paper from the operating theatre at a hospital in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The waste was melted into solid blocks, granulated and injection moulded into new medical products. Click here to read more

 
The Natura 2000 Award finalists have been announced – vote for your favourite!

The European Commission is proud to announce the 21 finalists for the 2022 edition of the Natura 2000 Award. The selected finalists are from Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain and include several cross-border initiatives which also involve partners from Cyprus and Croatia.
