The Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform is a joint initiative of the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions. It brings together stakeholders and experts of different policy areas, aiming at creating co-ownership, promoting collaboration, and fostering integrated solutions to maximise synergies with decarbonisation and post-COVID 19 recovery efforts. Each year, hospitals in the Netherlands generate about 1.3 million kilograms of plastic waste from polypropylene wrapping paper on surgical instruments. Researchers have suggested that this waste could be turned into new medical devices. They recovered surgical wrapping paper from the operating theatre at a hospital in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
