Software is a fundamental component in various aspects of technology, from interacting with low-level hardware to user interfaces and all the layers in between. However, the distinctive qualities of software introduce numerous concerns related to how it is managed, protected, and exploited. This webinar is relevant for anyone engaged in the creation, utilisation, and commercialisation of software tools, products, and services as well as those involved in procuring or licensing such software.
With this webinar, we aim to increase awareness and promote confidence in utilising intellectual property (IP) within the framework of Open Science, emphasising that there is no inherent conflict between the two. The session will explore the concept of "openness" in its various interpretations and illustrate how the IP system aligns with the fundamental principles of Open Science. Furthermore, the webinar will provide examples showcasing how the sharing of IP, data, and publications can be as open as possible while maintaining the option for closure when necessary.
As intellectual property (IP) assets are constantly growing, they should be used effectively. Accumulated IP assets can be the armour that protects a company from competitors in the market, but also a powerful weapon to initiate attacks. In this online session, European IP Helpdesk expert, Dr Christian Hackl, will reflect on different facets of the IP assessment process. Typically involving a systematic and scientific examination and evaluation of IP resources, it also allows companies to determine whether their IP is adequately protected and whether it currently provides a competitive advantage or might be used as such in the future.
Webinar - Made in China, But Who Owns the IP?
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) are the EU flagship programme for doctoral and postdoctoral training, equipping researchers with new knowledge and skills through mobility across borders and exposure to different sectors and disciplines. The webinar will offer an overview of critical elements related to intellectual property (IP) management in MSCA. This includes specific features of MSCA grants, Consortium Agreements, and important considerations when drafting MSCA proposals.

Unlike some other rights, copyright arises automatically, requiring specific attention to its management. In collaborative projects, multiple partners may contribute to copyrighted works, necessitating clear agreements on ownership, management, and strategies for protection and utilisation. This webinar aims to offer insights into copyright and its effective management within collaborative endeavours.

The Consortium Agreement (CA) defines the roles and responsibilities of project partners, covering areas like internal organisation, decision-making processes, financial arrangements, and intellectual property (IP) management. Typically, a CA is required for most projects and is signed before the Grant Agreement (GA). This webinar will provide an overview of the CA's essential components and highlight key considerations that partners should address within it.

Technology transfer is a complex process that goes beyond scientific and technological aspects and involves many non-scientific and non-technological factors and different stakeholders. While high quality research results are essential, they alone are not sufficient to ensure successful technology transfer. Other critical considerations include effective IP management and addressing specific IP-related issues. This webinar will introduce the essential elements and principles of knowledge and technology transfer.
In this webinar, we will address the specific challenges that EU-funded projects should consider while using or developing Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), particularly knowledge management and protection, exploitation, and maximising impact. At the end of this session, participants will gain a better understanding of what intellectual property rights (IPR) are appropriate for different ICT technologies as well as the exploitation strategies of different types of ICT.
Following the successful 2025 edition of the EU-13 Roadshow, the first event of the 2026 series will take place in Gdańsk, Poland on 12 February 2026, bringing together researchers, innovators, and innovation support organisations to explore how intellectual property and knowledge valorisation can drive impact. Participants will benefit from expert input provided by the European IP Helpdesk, interactive discussions, and a dedicated discussion panel with regional stakeholders.
This webinar will explore key issues that EU-funded projects need to address when using or developing ICT, with a focus on knowledge management, IP protection, exploitation strategies, and maximising impact. Organised by the European IP Helpdesk in collaboration with the IP4OS project, the session is particularly relevant for anyone involved in developing, using, or commercially exploiting ICT-based innovations.
IOFACH is widely regarded as the world’s leading trade fair for organic food. It gathers producers, retailers, innovators and stakeholders from across the global organic value chain to network, showcase products and exchange knowledge and market trends at the exhibition — both in person and via the digital platform. We are pleased to note that the Latin America IP SME Helpdesk will be present at BIOFACH — a great opportunity for European SMEs to connect, obtain support on intellectual property matters, and explore business and export opportunities within the global organic sector.
