DomiSMP 5.1 Release Candidate now available for testing
The eDelivery community can now access the Release Candidate (RC) of DomiSMP 5.1, available from 30 September 2024. This RC marks an important step toward the final release of DomiSMP 5.1, expected in October or November 2024.
What is DomiSMP?
DomiSMP is a sample software developed by the European Commission to help organisations implement an eDelivery Service Metadata Publisher (SMP). SMP is vital for publishing and retrieving data to configure message exchanges dynamically within a network. This process, known as Dynamic Discovery, enables automated messaging between parties using the eDelivery infrastructure with minimal configuration. By using DomiSMP, organisations can efficiently scale up and manage their eDelivery networks.
What is a Release Candidate (RC)?
A release candidate (RC) is an early version of software with new features and improvements. It is intended for testing purposes only, not for use in production environments. Users are encouraged to install DomiSMP 5.1-RC1 in their test environments and provide feedback. This process helps identify and fix any issues before the final release. The RC1 is a chance for the community to explore new features and functionalities ahead of the official launch.
Key features of DomiSMP 5.1
DomiSMP 5.1-RC1 introduces enhanced document management with templates and document referencing, improved user management with automatic user creation and password reset options, a DNS lookup tool for validating participant identifiers, and new configuration options for ecosystems/domains. These updates aim to streamline metadata management, enhance flexibility and improve the overall user experience.
For all features and improvements introduced in the 5.1-RC1 version, see the DomiSMP release page.
The final release of DomiSMP 5.1 will come with a new approach to documentation, providing easier access to updated guides and resources. This mirrors the recent documentation improvements made for Domibus earlier this year.
What comes next?
The final release of DomiSMP 5.1 is expected in October or November, accompanied by the new documentation approach. Additionally, the eDelivery team plans to publish a new series of video tutorials, similar to those created for DomiSMP 5.0.
Until then, users are encouraged to install and test the RC1 from 30 September and provide feedback. DomiSMP is the sample software provided by the European Commission to implement an eDelivery Service Metadata Publisher for publishing and retrieving data necessary for an eDelivery party to dynamically configure its system for message exchange with other parties using eDelivery. It is based on the eDelivery SMP 1.10 profile, an open technical specification for publishing service metadata within a 4-corner network. There are numerous other products and services currently conformant with the SMP 1.10 profile. We invite projects to browse the full list before choosing their SMP software.
