Release Candidate of DomiSMP 5.1 scheduled for 30 September: what you need to know

We are pleased to announce the upcoming release candidate (RC) of DomiSMP 5.1, scheduled for 30 September. This release marks an important milestone for the eDelivery community and prepares for the final release of DomiSMP 5.1 in Q3 2024.

What is DomiSMP?

DomiSMP is sample software developed by the European Commission. It is designed to help organisations implement an eDelivery Service Metadata Publisher (SMP), which is essential for publishing and retrieving the necessary data to dynamically configure message exchanges within a 4-corner network. The process that allows an eDelivery party to find and configure messaging endpoints on the fly is called Dynamic Discovery. This functionality is essential for ensuring automated message exchanges between different parties using the eDelivery infrastructure with limited configuration overhead. By leveraging DomiSMP, groups of organisations can scale up and maintain their eDelivery networks more efficiently.

The Building Block's sample SMP software adheres to the eDelivery SMP 1.10 profile, an open technical standard for managing service metadata in cross-organisational communication. Instead of DomiSMP, a user looking to implement an eDelivery SMP can choose to use any of the several products and services already conforming to the same profile specifications. We encourage you to explore the full range of available eDelivery SMP conformant solutions before selecting the one that best fits your needs.

What is a release candidate (RC)?

A release candidate, or RC, is an early version of software that includes new features and improvements, not meant to be used in production. It is made available to users for testing, allowing them to provide feedback before the final release. This helps ensure that any issues are identified and resolved ahead of the official launch. The DomiSMP 5.1 RC1 will allow you to try out the new features before the final release in October or November.

What is in DomiSMP 5.1?

The DomiSMP 5.1 release includes several important updates:

  • New configuration options for ecosystems/domains, which can now define their own rules for participant and document identifier types.

  • Document referencing by multiple participants: A single document, such as the metadata of a service provider, can be referenced by multiple participants. This feature enhances the flexibility and efficiency of metadata management for eDelivery parties.

  • User management enhancements:

    • Automatic user creation when using a central authentication server (CAS).

    • A password reset feature.

    • Enhanced email notifications for user creation and updates.

    • A warning before UI session expiration, with an option to extend the session.

    • User alerts now visible to users and system admin only.

  • DNS lookup tool, which enables users to validate Dynamic Discovery resolution for custom participant identifiers.

  • Option to configure document review-workflow for resource/subresource management.

  • Users can create document templates with property definitions, making it easier to maintain and manage document data.

On top of that, the final release of DomiSMP 5.1 will be accompanied by a new documentation framework, which will provide users with easier access to up-to-date guides and resources. Earlier this year, we did the same for Domibus.

What is next?

While the RC1 of DomiSMP 5.1 will be available for testing on 30 September, the final release is expected to follow in October or November. Users will also have access to a new documentation framework at that time, along with additional resources to help them get the most out of the software.

Additionally, the eDelivery team plans to release a new series of video tutorials, similar to the ones published for DomiSMP 5.0. These resources will guide users through the features and functionality of the updated version.

For DomiSMP roadmap and previous releases, see DomiSMP releases.

In the meantime, starting 30 September, we encourage you to test the RC1, provide feedback and explore how the new features can enhance your operations.

Keep an eye out for the full release of DomiSMP 5.1, and be sure to explore its new features to optimise your eDelivery processes!
