Non-accessible content

Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of the European Commission website, we are aware of some limitations, which we are working to fix. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you encounter an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for the Once-Only hub website:

  1. Missing title in a frame for video: When videos are embedded in a frame, the frame does not always have a title. We plan to fix this issue by end of May 2025.
  2. Missing image descriptions: Each image must have an alt attribute. Without alternative text, the content of an image will not be available to screen reader users or when the image is unavailable. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  3. Buttons must have discernible text: Buttons must have discernible text that clearly describes the destination, purpose, function, or action for screen reader users. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  4. Inaccessible Confluence MACRO Gallery: The gallery component does not meet accessibility standards. We plan to fix this issue by end of May.
  5. ARIA hidden element must not be focusable or contain focusable elements: Using the aria-hidden="true" attribute on an element removes the element and ALL of its child nodes from the accessibility API making it completely inaccessible to screen readers and other assistive technologies. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  6. Transcriptions: Videos on this website do not have transcriptions description. We plan to fix this issue by end of May 2025.
  7. Heading Hierarchy: Some pages do not present content in a hierarchical heading organization. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  8. External links open without warning: Some links open a new window (or tab) without warning. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  9. The landmark must have a unique role (native Confluence issue): Landmark-unique as a best practice rule ensures that landmarks have a unique role. We plan to fix this by end of May 2025.
  10. Audio description: Videos on this website do not have audio description. We acknowledge this limitation and strive to make our content as accessible as possible through other means.
