European Commission adopts decision to license European Blockchain Services Infrastructure software as open-source

The European Commission adopts a formal Decision to open accessibility to software for connecting to the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI).

This decision paves the way to increase innovation as EBSI moves from pre-production into production in 2022.

The EBSI is a public permissioned blockchain currently piloted in cooperation with the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP), consisting of the 27 EU Member States, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Participation of service providers on the EBSI blockchain network is conditional upon admission by the EBP.

The Decision to make EBSI software available for licencing under the European Union Public Licence is an example of how the European Commission is not only using, but also contributing to the open-source community and thereby growing the ecosystem around EBSI. This allows anyone to have full visibility on the code, discussing it freely and grow a community able to help identify any potential shortcomings.
