Three MEDIA-backed films honoured at Cannes Film Festival

Three films supported by the EU MEDIA programme for cinema were among the winners at the end of the Cannes Film Festival.

Le Passé by Asghar Farhadi, winner of the EU Prix MEDIA for best film project in 2012, won the prize for best female actress (Bérénice Béjo) and the ecumenical jury prize. The film focuses on the relationship between a French wife and her Iranian husband who are planning to divorce. Salvo, an Italian-French co-production about a mafia hitman directed by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, won the Grand Prix in the Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week) selection. Rithy Panh’s autobiographical feature L'image Manquante (The Missing Picture), a highly personal account of the horrors of a childhood lived under the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, won the prize in the Un Certain Regard selection. In total, the MEDIA programme supported 13 films at this year's festival (See IP/13/424).
