eTwinning for cross-border learning: school projects of the year announced

Brussels/Berlin, 29 March 2012. Now in its 8th year, the European Commission's 'eTwinning' scheme involves more than 155 000 teachers in 31 countries who are using information and communication technologies (ICTs) to set up cross-border educational projects.

Androulla Vassiliou visits Tunisia on 1-4 March. During her visit she will meet the Minister for Education, Abdellatif Abid, the Minister for Culture, Mehdi Mabrouk, the Minister of Labour, Abdelwaheb Mâatar and the Minister for Youth and Sport, Tarak Dhiab. Their discussions will focus on how EU funding can boost Tunisia's education reforms. EU support for youth, education and training in Tunisia and the wider region is provided through EU programmes such as Erasmus Mundus, Youth in Action and Tempus.

Winners of 2012 EU Cultural Heritage Prize / Europa Nostra Awards announced

Brussels/The Hague 20 March 2012 - The European Commission and Europa Nostra announced the winners today. The awards will be presented on 1 June at a ceremony at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon in the presence of Androulla Vassiliou and Plácido Domingo, the world-renowned tenor and President of Europa Nostra.

EU's best young translators feted at awards

Brussels, 26 March 2012 – Androulla Vassiliou will present trophies to winners of this year's Young Translators' (Juvenes Translatores) Contest, organised by the Commission. 27 secondary school students, one from each EU country, have been invited to Brussels to receive their award for producing the best translation from their country.

Public funding for film: Commission consults on future state aid rules

Brussels, 14 March 2012 - The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the state aid criteria it proposes to use to assess EU countries' public funding to support the film industry. The criteria are set out in a draft Communication, on which the Commission invites comments by 14 June 2012.
