Erasmus: Record number of students receive EU grants for study and training abroad

Donostia-San Sebastián to be the European Capital of Culture in Spain in 2016

Brussels, 28 June 2011 - The Spanish city of Donostia-San Sebastián was recommended today for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2016 by an independent selection panel. It will host the title along with Wrocław in Poland (IP/11/766). The formal nomination by the EU's Council of Ministers will take place in May 2012.

Brussels, 21 June 2011 - Today the Polish city of Wrocław was recommended for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2016 by an independent selection panel. It will host the title along with a Spanish city, to be selected next week. The formal nomination by the EU's Council of Ministers will take place in May 2012.

Winners of 2011 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards honoured

Brussels / Barcelona, 20 June 2011 -The winners of the 2011 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Award were honoured today in Barcelona. David Chipperfield Architects in collaboration with Julian Harrap received the main prize for their reconstruction of the Neues Museum in Berlin and Ramon Bosch and Bet Capdeferro won the 'emerging architect special mention' award for the Collage House in Girona. Androulla Vassiliou and Jordi Hereu, acting mayor of Barcelona, presented them with sculptures representing the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and a cash prize of €60,000 and €20,000 respectively.

Winners of 2011 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards honoured

The awards will be presented by Androulla Vassiliou and Plácido Domingo, the world-renowned tenor and president of Europa Nostra. Six of the 27 winners will be named tonight as 'Grand Prix' laureates in recognition of their outstanding heritage achievements. The ceremony will be attended by an audience of some 1500 people including H.R.H. Princess Margriet of The Netherlands.
