ESAC adopted a statement for the European Statistics Day during its 40th meeting on 27 June 2023.
Director-General of Eurostat
'The European Statistics Day is an excellent opportunity to remind and promote the value of official statistics for making informed decisions and holding public debates. It is also a day to extend special thanks to all colleagues across Europe who have chosen statistics as their profession. Happy European Statistics Day, dear colleagues!'
Director General of Statistics, European Central Bank
'On European Statistics Day, we celebrate the invaluable role that statistics play in shaping our understanding of the world. Statistics are not just numbers; they are the bedrock of informed decision-making, policy formulation, and progress assessment. Monetary policy and banking supervision would be impossible without reliable and timely data. European Statistics Day reminds us of our duty to provide society with this independent, objective, and reliable source of information.'
Chair, European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC)
'More than ever, in a fast-changing world facing the challenges of the green transition and a sustainable growth, relevant indicators and reliable data are key for policy implementation. While data sources are multiplying at an unprecedented rate due to digitisation and artificial intelligence, ESAC’s message for the European Statistics Day 2023 if that official statistics must retain their central role as a reliable input to decision-making, contributing to informed public debate, enhancing social and economic development, and combating disinformation.'
