The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Regional Government of Andalusia, in southern Spain, have used EU funding to create the Andalusian Urban Development Fund. This is a fund of funds – a portfolio of various different types of fund – aimed at fostering urban development in the region. Resources are channelled to final recipients via two financial intermediaries selected by the EIB through a call for expressions of interest: Arcano Fondo de Desarrollo Urbano and GED Andalucía Urbano.

The EU-funded METMONIC project aims to modernise Croatia’s national meteorological network with the acquisition of 450 instruments, including automatic weather stations, weather buoys and remote measurement systems such as meteorological radars. This will improve measurements taken from close to the earth’s surface and the upper atmosphere. The project will allow for more accurate predictions of extreme weather, and better understanding of climate change, which should contribute to better policies to help protect society from its effects.

plThe Racibórz Dolny flood protection reservoir – which is being built with support from European Union co-financing – aims to provide protection from flooding by the River Oder for 1.3 million inhabitants in the most important settlements in the Śląskie, Dolnośląskie and Opolskie regions of southern and south-western Poland. The reservoir has a surface area of 24 km² and a storage capacity of 185 million m³.
plPhase five of a large investment programme entitled ‘Waste Water Master Plan for Warsaw’ is underway. It is co-financed by the European Union and focuses on water supply and waste-water management. This phase, which is being implemented in the city of Warsaw and the municipalities of Pruszków and Serock, includes development of a central sewage network management system.
