Urban Heritage for the Future

In 1940 Janne Marttiini, a smith by profession, built a three-storey knife factory in the centre of Rovaniemi. It was one of the rare industrial edifices in this town and indeed in the whole of Lapland. Badly damaged in 1944, repaired after the war and again abandoned in the early 1990s, the old factory seemed doomed to ruin. But today, after an extraordinary renovation effort, it has once again become a landmark of Rovaniemi�s cultural heritage.

State of the Art in Research

The building and equipping of an impresive new Environmental and Aeronautical Engineering building has done wonders for the University of Limerick. The state of the art facility has catered for rising student numbers and has extended the range of specialised research options open to post graduates. In addition, new partnerships with industry are really putting the University on the map.

Drogheda By-Pass - a "missing link"

Driving from Dublin to Belfast used to be a long and tedious journey. Now the Dublin-Belfast Trans Euroroute E01 has eased the traffic flow and shortened travel times along a single, smooth running motorway linking Dublin and the border. This will greatly benefit economic development along the length of the road, improve the quality of life and ultimately offer greater exchange between North and South.
