157 project proposals submitted to 2022 Promotion of Agricultural Products’ calls (25/04/2022)
The two calls for proposals on Information provision and promotion measures concerning agricultural products implemented in the internal market and in third countries, closed on 21 April 2022. 116 SIMPLE and 41 MULTI proposals were submitted. Successful applicants will be informed of the evaluations’ outcome in Autumn 2022. Applicants for MULTI programmes will be contacted by the European Research Executive Agency (REA), while applicants for SIMPLE programmes will be contacted by their national authorities.

Flash Eurobarometer for EU agricultural food and beverage products in third countries (25/04/2022)
Agricultural products are a key part of the European economy and an important component of trade between the EU and the rest of the world. In autumn 2021, REA carried out a flash barometer survey to better understand the level of awareness and knowledge about EU agricultural food and beverage products. The survey took place in ten countries outside the EU: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, UK. Consult the results via the below link.
Europe’s high food safety standards and trade opportunities discussed with Beijing in seminar (30/03/2022)
On 30-31 March 2022, the EU organised a special two-day online seminar on European agri-food products. The event focused on the EU’s Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary (SPS) system for animal and plant agri-food products. Globally renowned as one of the highest levels of food protection, the system ensures that European products exported worldwide are safe, traceable and of the highest quality.
Successful consumer activation at Dubai Mall (24/03/2022)
From 24 – 27 March 2022, the EU’s “More than Food” campaign held another successful consumer tasting experience in Dubai. The campaign was yet another testimony to the high interest European quality products have amongst consumers in the region.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of the Promotion of Agricultural Products website has been moved to the Funding and Tenders Portal FAQ section. The latest published questions and answers concern programme continuations that could impact the eligibility of projects currently under preparation.
Co-financed programmes implemented in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus (22/03/2022)
Beneficiaries promoting their products in Ukraine, Russia and/or Belarus are invited to contact the authority managing their grant agreements, to explore possibilities of adapting the implementation of their co-financed projects. Options such as the suspension or termination of grant agreements, as well as adjustments of estimated budgets in favour of other markets targeted by the projects can be envisaged. Please refer to the pertinent FAQs, by using the keywords “suspend “or “changes” in the top left search option to filter these out and learn which amendments may be done.

EU Commissioner visits “Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods Week” at EXPO 2020 Dubai, UAE (17/02/2022)
The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Janusz Wojciechowski, visited Dubai during the “Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods Week” at EXPO 2020, from 17-23 February 2022. On behalf of the Commissioner, EU Ambassador to the UAE, Andrea Matteo Fontana, hosted a three-course dinner at the Belgian pavilion. Prepared by Michelin Star chef Bart Thoelen, it showcased the best of European produce to ambassadors, business leaders and opinion shapers from the GCC’s food and beverage industry. The Commissioner also visited the ‘EU Caravan’ on Jumeirah Beach, offering various EU food products.
EU’s Pavilion showcases gastronomical celebration at Foodex 2022 Japan (08/03/2022)
On 8-11 March, at the 47th edition of Foodex fair in Tokyo, the European Union hosted a successful Pavilion which gathered over 18.000 visitors. Live cooking shows with renowned chefs and tastings highlighted authentic Geographical Indications and organic products unique to Europe’s diverse regions, matching those of their Japanese counterparts in a gastronomical celebration. The EU’s presence showcased how innovative and appealing the ‘Perfect match!’ between European products and local Japanese ingredients can be!
European Food Fair at Rakuten Japan: new campaign on Dairy products launched (04/03/2022)
The EU released its second dairy campaign with top Japanese e-commerce platform Rakuten. This event highlighted featured food and beverages under the ‘Dairy products’ category, through recipe suggestions, coupon campaigns, contests and cooking videos done by famous Japanese chefs.
Successful Retail Promotions in Thailand (01/10/2021)
From October 2021 to January 2022, the EU implemented four waves of retail promotions in the context of the ‘Colours by Europe’ campaign in Thailand. The activities took place in Bangkok, in partnership with Central Food Retail Group, as local audiences were incentivized to enjoy a wide range of EU products. The activity was very successful, with a total sales increase of 21.75% of EU food and beverage products and over 3 million visitors via the three sales (e-commerce) channels.
Flavours of the EU at the ‘Sabor Es Polanco’ festival in Mexico (12/03/2022)
Thousands of visitors enjoyed the flavours of the European Union at ‘Sabor Es Polanco’ festival, held in Mexico City on 12-13 March 2022. The EU campaign Un Viaje a Europa en cada bocado’s stand featured an inviting bar of canapés made with the best of EU produce, offering drinks and inspiring cooking demonstrations. The stand also welcomed the visit of EU Ambassador to Mexico, Gautier Mignot, and several personalities from the Mexican gastronomic media world.

The new EU Agripromo webpages are now live on REA’s website. This follows the transfer of the implementation of the EU policy for the Promotion of agricultural products to REA. The new pages contain extensive information and guidance on upcoming calls, funding, the latest campaigns, as well as general support for EU exporters in the sector.
The Perfect Match! Campaign (20/01/2022)
The ‘European & Vietnamese Food: The Perfect Match!’ campaign has been launched by the European Union to promote EU agricultural food and beverages in Vietnam. The initiative aims to capitalise on the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect in August 2020, by increasing demand among more businesses and consumers in Vietnam. The campaign highlights the key attributes of EU food and drinks - safety, authenticity, and quality – by showcasing European products and local Vietnamese ingredients. The unique standards of the EU produce are guaranteed by 3 quality labels (PDO, PGI and organic), which together ensure not only great taste, but also enable consumers to trust and distinguish quality products.
EU food fair in top Japanese e-commerce platform (20/01/2022)
On 15 Nov 2021, the EU launched a European Food Fair showroom on Rakuten, the top e-commerce marketplace in Japan. This campaign serves as a dedicated EU F&B e-shop promoting a wide range of EU products from across all 27 EU Member States. For a period of one year, Japanese consumers will be able to experience the ‘Perfect Match’ between EU and Japanese products, through cooking demonstrations with renowned chefs, as well as recipe contests, coupon campaigns and seasonal recommendations.

The Info Day on Calls for proposals 2022 will take place online on 1 and 2 February. The event will include presentations from Commission and REA staff, various beneficiaries as well as experts in the field of the Promotion of Agricultural Products. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas, and to network through online matchmaking sessions (in the afternoon). Registrations for the event are open until 28 January.
More than Food: EU food and beverage tasting and cooking experiences at EXPO 2020 (31/10/2021)
The EU launched promotional activities on agri-food produce at the EXPO 2020 across Dubai to discover the tastes of Europe’s finest food and beverage products, known for their authenticity, quality, safety and sustainability. The EU food truck is located at the City Walk in Dubai and offers daily tasting, smoothies, cooking demonstrations, a pop-up playground, and much more. Tourists and locals have been enjoying the ‘More than Food’ experience, which offers a culinary journey through Europe.
The European Union ‘European & Vietnamese Food: The Perfect Match!’ campaign kicked off in Vietnam with a special ‘EU Meat, Olive Oil & Table Olives Seminar’ (06/01/2022)
On 6 January 2022, celebrity Chef Hungazit gave a live cooking demonstration, showcasing EU food produce amongst food and hospitality experts in Ho Chi Minh City. During the event, three industry specialists (Mr. Paul Le – importer, Mr. Minh Tran Quang - distributor and Chef Albin Deforges) spoke of the recent EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. They also highlighted the associated benefits of selling EU food produce given its unique safety and quality standards. The event was attended by over 70 professionals ranging from chefs, retailers, importers and distributors to relevant members of the press.
2022 Annual Work Programme is adopted (15/12/2021)
On 15 December, the Commission adopted its Annual Work Programme for 2022 on the promotion of agricultural and food products. A total of EUR 185.9 million will be available for the promotion of European agri-food products, with a focus on sustainable agriculture. The Commission will also organise communication campaigns in third countries, featuring an EU pavilion in major agri-food trade fairs, business delegation visits, seminars, and much more. The 2022 Annual Work Programme aligns with the political priorities of the European Commission for 2019-2024, in particular the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy.
High Level Mission to Vietnam and Singapore in July 2022 (15/12/2021)
Led by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, senior representatives from the EU agri-food sector will be visiting Vietnam and Singapore from 10-16 July 2022. The objective of the visit is to give European sector representatives the opportunity to meet potential business partners from local markets and to familiarise themselves with the market conditions in Vietnam and Singapore. The programme of the visit will include informative seminars on the characteristics of local markets and consumer trends, retail and site visits, as well as networking opportunities. Those interested can register until 20 December 2021.
4th China International Import Expo (CIIE): the EU’s ‘Colours by Europe’ returns (15/12/2021)
From 5-10 November 2021, the European Union took part in the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. This year’s EU Pavilion offered the unique opportunity to experience the close bonds between cultural heritage, local farming practices and the rich array of quality products from the 27 Member States. It also emphasised the European Union’s international ambition for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system.

EU food and beverage products at EXPO 2020 (03/01/2022)
On 3 January, the EU will launch a major promotion campaign on EU agri-food produce at the EXPO 2020 in Dubai. For a period of three months, some of the finest EU food and beverage products will be presented in different locations across Dubai in EU food trucks, offering cooking shows and daily tastings. The campaign will then culminate in the More Than Food Festival to be held in March.
EU Pavilions at FOODEX Tokyo and Fine Food Sydney 2022 (08/03/2022)
On 8-11 March 2022, the EU will promote the safety, quality, authenticity and sustainability of EU agri-food products at the Foodex Tokyo and Fine Food Australia fairs. EU Member States and relevant stakeholders are welcome to suggest products that should be promoted in these markets.
2021 EU Agricultural Outlook conference: exploring global agricultural market trends (09/12/2021)
The 2021 EU Agricultural Outlook conference took place online on 9 and 10 December, with the theme ‘Fit for 2030 – resilient EU agri-food systems and rural areas’. The conference examined what to expect of global agricultural markets in 2030, in light of the political and market uncertainty currently facing the agricultural sector. As in past years, the conference coincided with the release of the annual report on market prospects.

The European Commission held a conference on the review of the promotion policy for EU agricultural products on 12 and 13 July 2021. The conference was part of a comprehensive consultation process with stakeholders and civil society. The presentations are still available to watch.
A great success: the EU’s pavilion at the ANTAD & Alimentaria Expo in Mexico! (18/10/2021)
From 18-20 October, the European Union and its campaign “Un viaje a Europa en cada bocado”, successfully hosted a series of gastronomic and immersive activities. The aim was to showcase the extraordinary quality of EU agri-produce at Expo ANTAD & Alimentaria 2021 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The EU was once again recognized as a “Región de Honor”.

In response to the 2021 Call for proposals for simple programmes, 142 proposals were submitted by 11 May 2021. The Commission has adopted a decision announcing the 52 programmes selected.

In response to the 2021 Call for proposals for multi programmes, 56 proposals were submitted by 11 May 2021. REA informed applicants of the outcome in September, and call statistics as well as a list of successful projects are available for consultation.

The European Commission has launched a new promotion campaign in India entitled “More than just Food, Great Stories to Share” targeting business to business (B2B) professionals, consumers and media in major Indian cities. The aim is to increase awareness and knowledge regarding the level of excellence of EU agricultural produce. The campaign features virtual seminars, social media partnerships and educational videos. Physical experiences such as promotional actions at local supermarkets and VIP dinners will also take place.
