European Union in China: Looking back to the High-Level Mission and the 2024 Anuga food fair (15/05/2024)

“In both China and Europe, we share the value of savouring an authentic product, enriched by a story and a history, shaped by real people and places” said EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski in his April 2024 High-Level Mission address. The business delegation had over 640 matchmaking meetings between EU representatives and Chinese buyers, the EU being also present at the Anuga food fair in Shenzhen.

162 proposals submitted for the Promotion of Agricultural Products 2024 calls (15/05/2024)

Closed on 14 May 2024, MULTI and SIMPLE calls for proposals received 32 and 130 applications respectively, with a budget request of over €290.9 million. This funding opportunity focuses on informational and promotional campaigns for agri-products in the internal market and third countries. Successful applicants will be announced in autumn 2024.

EU creates new businesses opportunities in South Korea (10/06/2024)

The EU will host B2B events at Seoul Food Week to highlight Europe-grown agri-food and its key advantages. The initiative aims to strengthen business ties with Korean importers, distributors, retailers, and HORECA professionals, with a special focus on EU meats and organics. Cooking shows, workshops and food tastings will allow visitors to experience the excellence of the EU products, while showing how to 'perfectly match’ them with local Japanese ingredients.

On 24-26 April, the EU will be present at the food fair Anuga Select in Shenzhen - China, to promote the safety, quality, authenticity and sustainability of European agri-food, as part of the campaign “Irresistible Europe. Countless combinations”. The EU Pavilion will host workshops on Geographical Indications and organic products, cooking shows, and tasting sessions featuring over 200 European produce.

The BORDEUS-2 program promotes premium European wines, particularly from Germany and Bordeaux, in the United States. It targets engaged, premium wine consumers aged 25-45 and social influencers through various marketing activities to increase awareness and product trial. The EU is co-funding the three-year program with EUR 5.78 million.

Enjoy top quality fruits and vegetables from Europe (18/01/2024)

By raising awareness on the high food safety standards and the quality of the European fruits and vegetables, the Mediterranean Combo campaign highlights the beneficial impact of integrating at least five portions of fruits and vegetables into your everyday diet. The campaign also aims to increase sales value in the markets of Greece, Spain, Germany, and Hungary. Seven producer organizations from Greece and one trade organization from Spain carry out the initiative. The EU contributes with €2.72 million.

Consuming more organic products in Italy and Germany (19/12/2023)

The project ‘Without borders regional - organic in Europe’ (GReBioEU) aims to increase awareness and recognition around the EU organic quality system and the competitiveness and consumption of EU organic products in Germany and Italy. The communication activities focus on reducing prejudices and increasing knowledge, including advantages of regional production as guarantee of EU origin. The partners BIOLAND E.V. (Germany) and BIOLAND SUEDTIROL SOCIETA AGRICOLA COOPERATIVA (Italy) successfully cooperate on the implementation, with an EU contribution of €4.67 million.

EU to co-fund 68 new campaigns to promote sustainable and high-quality EU farm products (21/11/2023)

The 2023 calls for proposals received 119 campaign proposals, with 68 successfully selected campaigns. The 50 SIMPLE selected programmes will be supported with a budget of €88.7 million and the 18 MULTI programmes will receive a budget of €54.3 million. The proposals aim to boost the competitiveness of the EU agri-food sector, while contributing to the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy, amongst other EU key priorities.

Potatoes are forever! (21/11/2023)

Potatoes benefit from a positive image for their gustatory qualities, practicality and historic dimension. The POTATOES FOREVER campaign seeks to show sustainable practices in Italy and France, focusing on the professionals’ commitment to reduce potatoes’ impact on the environment. The CNIPT, interbranch of fresh potatoes in France, and the UNAPA, union of producers' associations in Italy, are the two organisations caring out the campaign, with an EU contribution of €2.6 million.

European Commission adopts 2024 Promotion of Agricultural Products Work Programme (21/11/2023)

The European Commission will allocate €185.9 million to fund promotion activities for sustainable and high-quality EU-grown agri-food products in the EU and worldwide. The amounts available are split between promotion in the EU internal market and in third countries, with €81.3 million and €85.1 million respectively, allocated to grants. The new calls for proposals will be launched on 18 January 2024.

EU Pavilion at FHC Shanghai presents irresistible EU agri-food (21/11/2023)

On 8-10 November, the EU promoted the safety, quality, authenticity and sustainability of European agri-food produce at the FHC Global Food Trade Show in Shanghai. The “Irresistible Europe. Countless combinations” Pavilion included workshops on Geographical Indications (GIs) and organic products, cooking shows, and tasting sessions featuring over 200 European products, giving participants a unique opportunity to learn about the close bonds between cultural heritage and local farming practices.

2023 calls for the promotion of agricultural products: evaluation results expected in autumn (25/09/2023)

The European Commission is evaluating 98 SIMPLE and 21 MULTI proposals submitted to two calls for proposals, concerning promotional measures for agricultural products implemented within the internal market and third countries. EU export promotion seminar showcases trade opportunities between Europe and Thailand (25/09/2023)

On 7 and 8 June the EU held a seminar in Bangkok, Thailand. EU and Thai officials, industry experts, importers and sector organisations explored how to improve trade opportunities for EU agri-food products in Thailand and discussed the EU’s food safety and quality standards. This seminar was part of a wider series of promotional activities and events organised by the EU in Thailand, such as the communication campaign titled - “Colours by Europe, Tastes of Excellence”.

High level visit to Japan (25/09/2023)

From 2 to 6 July 2023, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, led an EU business delegation from the European agri-food sector to Japan. The purpose of this visit was to facilitate European agricultural food and beverage exports, and to benefit from the positive outcomes of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, in force since 2019.

The FV4MILLENNIALS programme strives to increase consumption of fruit and vegetables among Millennials (aged 25-35) in France and Ireland. It also aims at raising awareness of their nutritional benefits, versatility and sustainability. The EU contributes to this three-year project with €4 347 851,64.

Boosting organic produce in Europe (26/04/2023)

The EU-funded 3-year project ‘Promoting organic through nudging: Strengthening the EU organic logo in Finland, Flanders, the Netherlands and Sweden’ seeks to boost organic retail sales and inspire food companies. The EU contribution to the project budget is € 3 624 401 and is part of the green transition to increase the percentage of organic farmland to 25% by 2030.

The European Commission received 98 SIMPLE and 21 MULTI proposals with both calls closing 20 April 2022. The two calls for proposals concerned information provisions and promotional measures for agricultural products, implemented within the internal market and third countries. EU campaign in Thailand wins Consumer Award (26/04/2023)

The public relations and communications association (PRCA) celebrates outstanding PR campaigns during the APAC Awards for teams and individuals across Asia. In recognition of the most outstanding PR campaigns and talent contribution to the industry, the PRCA APAC awarded the campaign ‘Colours by Europe Tastes of Excellence’ for its Consumer Award. The campaign brought European gastronomy to Thai tables, via social media and online activities and in-person experiences.

South Korea: The ‘Colours by Europe’ campaign targets the next level! (18/01/2023)

The next phase of the ‘Colours by Europe. Tastes of Excellence’ campaign has launched to increase awareness and knowledge of the excellence of EU agricultural products in South Korea. It targets business-to-business professionals, media, influencers and consumers in major cities. It features new social media partnerships, participation in major trade fairs, trade seminars and workshops, cooking classes at department stores and supermarket promotions. This campaign will boost visibility, reinforcing specific key merits to increase demand and market share of EU agricultural products.

China: ‘The Colours of Europe’ campaign enters a new phase (18/01/2023)

Building on the successful launch a few years ago, the campaign reinforces the promotion of EU food and beverages in China by increasing their daily presence on Chinese tables, opening up a world of combinations to local consumers. Stronger emphasis will be put on Geographical Indications (GI) and organics in view of the EU-China GI Agreement and the EU ‘Farm to fork’ strategy. Its format will be predominantly digital, supported by offline activities. An extensive advertising campaign will expand the audience reach by moving further across China reaching out to people on new platforms.

2023 AGRIP Annual Work Programme adopted (21/12/2022)

On 16 December, the European Commission adopted its Annual Work Programme for 2023 on the promotion of agricultural products. EUR 185.9 million will be available for the promotion of European agri-food products, with a focus on sustainable agriculture. The Commission will also organise communication campaigns in non-EU countries, featuring an EU pavilion in major agri-food trade fairs, business delegation visits and seminars. The Programme aligns with the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy.

Info Day on 2023 AGRIP calls for proposals on 1 and 2 February 2023 (21/12/2022)

First time for EU Pavilion at 2023 Winter Fancy Food Show (WFFS) in Las Vegas (21/12/2022)

On 15-17 January 2023, the EU will promote the safety, quality, authenticity and sustainability of EU agri-food produce at the WFFS fair in Las Vegas. The EU pavilion will offer an immersive experience, showcasing a wide variety of EU agricultural food and beverage products. This will take place through interactive sessions such as live cooking shows, product oriented sessions, and tastings with renowned European and U.S. chefs.

Quality food is a hallmark of the festive season! (21/12/2022)

Christmas time can be a celebration of gastronomical excellence in produce. Our special Christmas article features among others two Promotion of agricultural products’ projects: EuroFoodArt, which seeks to enhance the competitiveness and consumption of agricultural products registered under the EU’s certification schemes PDO and PGI. The project aims to raise the products’ profiles and increase their market share in France, Belgium and Italy. Similarly, the METROFOOD-PP project looks at providing high-quality services in support of the agri-food sector with specific reference to food quality, safety, traceability and sustainability.

A Trip to Europe in Every Bite hosts a Wine Lab in Mexico City (21/12/2022)

A Trip to Europe in Every Bite campaign was hosted by the EU Delegation in Mexico, with the presence of a Mexican chef and a sommelier. A group of 22 representatives from the business sector learned more about wines, consumption trends and the benefits of establishing business relationships with European companies. The event inspired participants to consume, sell and import EU products.

A Trip to Europe in Every bite campaign videos released (21/12/2022)

Four videos from the press trip “A Trip to Europe in Every bite” to Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have now been published on the EU Food and Farming Youtube channel. The videos show how EU fruits, vegetables, meat, wine and beer are produced, respecting the highest safety, quality and sustainability standards to ensure the products’ authentic character.

Seminar in Dubai on EU standards for agri-food products (21/12/2022)

A special Seminar on EU standards for agri-food products for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries took place on 13-14 December 2022 in Dubai. This interactive event provided GCC authorities and food and beverage industry professionals with insights on the benefits of sustainable and organic food and drink from Europe. It offered networking opportunities, along with a live cooking show, presentations and roundtable discussions with expert speakers.

The ‘EU Caravan’ food truck returned to Dubai in December (21/12/2022)

This month, the ‘EU Caravan’ foodtruck featured at EXPO 2020 in Dubai saw a return. It offered daily tasting sessions and cooking classes with Greek Chef Andrea Theoni Karidisover. Visitors were treated to delicious recipes, such as Halibut with sweet biscuit crust and Danablu (PGI) sauce or grilled Graviera Naxou (PDO) and Provolone Valpadana (PDO) cheeses.

European Union Pavilion at Food & Hotel Vietnam (FHV) 2022 (21/12/2022)

As region of honour, the European Union Pavilion offered an immersive experience around the quality, safety, authenticity and sustainability of European food and beverage products during FHV Vietnam from 7 to 9 December. Tasting sessions attracted over 7,500 business professionals, eager to try the 234 different products from 27 EU Member States. Eight cooking and product-oriented workshops on EU olive oil, charcuterie boards, cheese and wine, as well as one on spirit drinks, attracted on average 30 visitors per show.
