INTREPID: Intelligent Toolkit for Reconnaissance and Assessment in Perilous Incidents

INTREPID is a three-year H2020-funded project (running from 1 October 2020 to 30 September 2023) that aims to help first responders deal with the challenges they face when they arrive at the scene of a hazardous incident. It provides a platform which will improve the 3D exploration and analysis of disaster areas by seamlessly integrating Intelligence Amplification and eXtended Reality concepts.

 
EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life

On 5 October 2022, The Commission adopted the first ever EU Strategy on Combating antisemitism. The strategy consists of actions around three objectives: • to prevent all forms of antisemitism • to protect and foster Jewish life • and to promote research, education and Holocaust remembrance.

 
Security, Democracy and Cities Conference

International and interdisciplinary the Security, Democracy and Cities 2021 conference is organised by the European Forum for Urban Security in Nice. Unique in its field, this event is geared towards all those involved in urban security: elected officials, civil servants, national administration, magistrates, law enforcement agencies, social workers, researchers, and representatives of the private sector and civil society.

 
Training course: fire and blast in reinforced concrete buildings

The course will address both basic and advanced topics related to fire and blast effects on reinforced concrete structures. It will enable students to use simplified methods in the thermo-mechanical analysis of reinforced concrete structures under blast and fire loading.

 
Debrief from the meetings of the EU Practioners' and EU Operators' fora

DG HOME of the European Commission held on 23 June 2021 the EU Practitioners’ Forum with law enforcement practitioners and EU funded networks, and on 24 June 2021 the EU Operators’ Forum with Member States’ policymakers, representatives from the private sector and faith associations.

 
Manual Prevention Pyramid

The Urban Agenda partnership has published a manual on the use of the Prevention Pyramid, a concept developed by Johan Deklerck, as a scientific instrument for integral and positive prevention, which aims to avoid a one-sided approach of insecurity. The main idea is to integrate crime-related social problem dimensions into prevention policy. The pyramid is a reference framework for developing prevention policies and practices aiming at a combination of general and specific measures within an integrated approach.

 
New Surveillance Technologies in Public Spaces

The Urban Agenda partnership has published a report which discusses the use of facial recognition technologies for the protection of public spaces. It provides an overview of the use of such technologies in the EU, provides concrete case-studies and discusses the technological vulnerabilities and practical challenges with implementation. The report looks in detail into the legal issues surrounding the use of facial recognition technologies and concludes with recommendations.

 
Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism – Stories from the EU’s work around the globe

The EU invests in projects around the world aiming to stop extremism in its tracks before it erupts in violence. This is a multifaceted issue which has to be approached through a broad range of perspectives like education, media, women empowerment, youth work, socioeconomic inclusion, governance, justice and intercommunal activities. The brochure Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism: Stories from around the Globe showcases stories and lessons from such projects.
