OSPOs for Good: Building & Designing Cooperative Digital Infrastructure

The United Nations Envoy on Technology and the Office of Information and Communications Technology are hosting an event titled "OSPOs for Good: Building & Designing Cooperative Digital Infrastructure" on 21 June. The event aims to address collaboration issues among institutional Open Source Programme Offices (OSPOs). It will provide education, challenges, and networking opportunities to foster the development of OSPOs for Good. Through discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions, the event will promote this concept, explore infrastructure opportunities, and scale up initiatives. Participants will gain hands-on experience through sample organizations and case studies.

 
Bits & Baüme NRW

Bits & Bäume NRW is a two-day conference that explores how digitalisation of our society can be done more democratically. Throughout various presentation, speakers will discuss subjects such as sustainability, democratic transparency, self-determination, and market monopolies. These questions are often inherent to the choice done by public administrations all over Europe to use open source. Whether it be for its increased transparency towards citizens, its respect of private and personal data, or the capacity to control the way it affects citizens as a whole, open source tools will be part of the discussions.

 
Webinar: Public Sector Cybersecurity OSPOs

Dr Sven Herpig will present his recently-published paper on: "Fostering Open Source Software Security. Blueprint for a Government Cybersecurity Open Source Program Office" The paper explains how FOSS is the basis of most regions' plans for digitalisation of public services, and this makes FOSS an issue of national security. "Governments can serve as internal coordinators, role models, supporters and regulators."

OSPO knowledge network: Open source software and the OSPO phenomenon

On Friday 9 June 2023, the Dutch OSPO knowledge network, in collaboration with OSPO++ and the OSPO network of the European Commission, is organizing a meeting at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in The Hague. During this meeting participants will reflect on the role of Open source software and the phenomenon of OSPOs in the transformation to digital community goods within the public sector. With the help of workshops they will explore the potential of more ( international ) cooperation & Codeswap.

 
MERGE-it 2023

The third edition of the Italian open source event MERGE-it will be held in Verona on the 12 and 13 May. This will be the second in-person edition of this conference as the previous one was held online in 2021 due to the pandemic. This conference brings together associations, informal groups, companies, professionals, and public administrations working on open source and digital freedom. Part of the program has already been published, and many sessions will discuss the various open source projects involving the public sector in Italy.

Segundas Jornadas de Cultura Libre de la URJC

"Next 29th and 30th of March will take place the Second Free Culture Conference of the URJC. They are conceived as a meeting point, training, and exchange of experiences on issues related to free culture at the University: open publishing (of teaching materials, research, etc.), open science, open data, free software, etc. It will feature presentations by experts on some of these topics, workshops on specific topics, and presentations by the university community. As a novelty, this year we will have a fair space, where we will share tools and news about culture and free software."

 
Join the seventh LEOS community webinar

LEOS (Legislation Editing Open Software) team has very good news and you can be among the first to learn about it during the next LEOS community webinar. During the LEOS community webinar, you will learn more about the new work programme under Digital Europe Programme, on the migration of LEOS to code.europa.eu - the code development platform for open source projects shared by the EU institutions. There have already been more than 3864 commits and 19 contributors. The team will highlight what they have learnt so far and will show how you can use or contribute code to LEOS. Finally, some of our partners will testify about their contributions and use of LEOS. A new partner, the European Data Protection Board, has in no time created their own templates, developed a document export and user management features. Additionally, our well-known partner Spain will also share their experiences. We are eager to hear from both of them. Ample time will be set aside for Q&A. Open Source Innovation in Universities 24 March
