Creating the light urban vehicles of the future

Future urban mobility will require more space for people and environmentally friendly vehicles, and less space for cars. L-category vehicles such as motorbikes and mopeds could be part of the solution, but potential users are put off by high prices.

The EU-funded EU-LIVE project will help make turn L-category vehicles into electrified, cost- and energy-efficient light urban vehicles that can be adapted to new mobility solutions, such as car-sharing and car-pooling.

The project is building demonstration models for a three-wheeler, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and a battery-operated electric scooter. Costs will be tackled through a ‘modular platform’ comprising a variety of powertrains, car bodies and components. This will simplify re-usability and flexibility, as well as exchange of vehicle components and systems for L-category vehicles.
