For this RAN meeting of the Families, Communities & Social Care Working Group, we are presently looking for social workers delivering family support to family members of radicalised individuals and/or practitioners delivering digital social work.
Practitioners who can provide concrete examples from daily practices, or who experience challenges with this topic, are invited to respond to this call for participants.

We are pleased to invite you to the RAN Practitioners Webinar on ‘Gaming and Gamification in Extremism and P/CVE Interventions’ that will take place on 3 March 2022 from 15:00 to 16:30 (CET).
A new year often heralds a new beginning, a time to reflect, appraise what needs to be done and set goals and ambitions for the year ahead. While it can bring fresh hope for what can be achieved, it also brings with it a new set of challenges. This is no different for practitioners working in P/CVE. In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has given new opportunities for terrorists to radicalise and recruit. As we enter the second month of 2022, there are a diverse range of emerging and evolving P/CVE threats which practitioners must be cognisant of. To help us to map and understand these threats, this edition of the RAN Practitioners Update features the latest episodes of both ‘The View’ and ‘RAN in Focus’, which take a look at the P/CVE landscape in Europe today and forecast some of the key P/CVE threats practitioners might have to tackle in the coming months. A new paper provides insights for practitioners on how to deal with women returning to Europe from Syria and Iraq. The paper highlights the gendered experiences of women in Daesh and the gender needs of women returnees. The second part of the paper identifies the involvement of various professions in the rehabilitation and reintegration of women returnees from Daesh to the EU.

A new paper provides insights for practitioners on particular challenges related to their rehabilitation of Islamist extremist converts. The paper aims to sensitise practitioners working with extremist converts regarding some of the most relevant issues around conversion and extremism and to provide some indications regarding potential pathways for deradicalisation, exit work and rehabilitation.

Thursday, 27th January marked The International Holocaust Remembrance Day – or the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust – a day which commemorates the victims of the Holocaust. With DG Justice publishing an ‘EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life (2021-2030)’, the need to tackle anti-Semitism is very much forefront of RAN Practitioners thinking. In Q1 the Communications and Narratives Working Group will look at how anti-Semitic narratives are used by various extremist groups.

RAN Communications and Narratives meeting on ‘Antisemitism as a part of almost all extremist ideologies and narratives’ (29/03/2022)
This is an online meeting that will take place on 29 and 30 March (both afternoon) 2022
For the RAN C&N Working Group meeting on ‘Antisemitism as a part of almost all extremist ideologies and narratives’, we are looking for first-line practitioners, communications experts and academics who are familiar or have experience with the topic of antisemitism in relation to different extremist ideologies or conspiracy narratives.
We are also looking for participants who would like to actively contribute to the meeting by speaking in a panel or chairing a break-out session.
As the history and contemporary forms of antisemitism differ across Europe, we encourage people from all EU Member States to reply to this call.
RAN POL meeting - Preventing and countering radicalisation of police, military and prison staff (23/03/2022)

On behalf of the RAN POL chairs Marzena Kordaczuk-Wąs and Luc Van Der Taelen, we are asking for your support. We are currently looking for suitable practitioners who have experience with preventing and countering radicalisation leading to violent extremism and terrorism within police, military and prison organisations.
The Lone Actor challenge within P/CVE is not a new phenomenon, with tragic examples stretching back throughout history. Indeed, RAN practitioners will recall all too quickly the sudden onset of lone actor attacks ‘inspired’ by Daesh across Europe and the world following the group’s emergence and subsequent fall in Syria and Iraq, the range of violent right-wing extremist-inspired attacks across the globe since 2017, whilst the events at Utøya, Norway in 2011 subsequently led to the creation of the RAN itself. However, towards the end of 2021, lone actor attacks in Kongsberg, Norway and Leigh-On-Sea, United Kingdom, have brought the topic back into prominence for all practitioners working in P/CVE.
This month’s RAN Practitioners Update, the first of the new year, focuses on the emerging and evolving lone actor challenge, particularly in the wake of the accelerated digitalisation brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Update links to the latest RAN Practitioners Spotlight Magazine which focuses on the topic, with articles and interviews from practitioners and academics on the frontline of this challenge. The Update also links to a new thematic film which hears from academic experts, practitioners and Working Group Leads, as well as a newly released RAN Practitioners paper on Lone Actors in Digital Environments.
