This is a meeting for practitioners only. This lunch-to-lunch meeting will take place on 22 November (12.00-17.30) and 23 November (09.00-13.00) in Stockholm, Sweden.
For our RAN Youth & Education (Y&E) Working Group meeting, we are looking for youth workers, teachers and other educational professionals with experience in preventive work through arts. Practitioners who can provide concrete examples from daily practices, or who experience challenges around this topic, are invited to respond to this call for participants
RAN PRISONS - What is in the European prison toolbox of DDR programmes? (15/11/2022)
Tuesday 15 November (13.00 – 17.30) and Wednesday 16 November 2022 (9.00 - 13.00). This meeting will take place in Berlin, Germany.
On behalf of the RAN PRISONS Working Group chairs Diletta Berardinelli and Nadya Radkovska, we are currently looking for participants with relevant expertise to take part in a meeting on ‘What is in the European prison toolbox of DDR programmes?’. The meeting will build on the RAN Policy & Practice event on evaluating disengagement, deradicalisation and resocialisation efforts (November 2019) and the RAN Policy & Practice Event on the challenges of resocialisation: Dealing with radicalised individuals during and after imprisonment (November 2018).

This is a face-to-face meeting that will take place in Helsinki, Finland on 10 and 11 November 2022.
A crucial change is underway driven by new technological possibilities: reality (or at least the perception thereof) is becoming increasingly less stable, and potential for manipulation is on the rise (Kalpokas, 2021). As Kalpokas (2021) puts it: “While previously the media used to perform a somewhat supplementary role, building onto the ‘real’ world and conveying or explaining it, with varying degrees of fidelity, the current and near future condition is characterized by the media hosting and creating the world that they intend to merely represent”. Technology now affords increasingly sophisticated ways to produce a ‘synthetic’ reality, with the clearest example being deep fakes.

Film on Working Group meeting (06/09/2022)
With travel permitted for the first time in two years, RAN Practitioners has been on the road. A new series of programmes, called ‘Event Reports’, captures RAN and its network of practitioners in action. The first of these episodes visited Barcelona, to attend a meeting of the RAN LOCAL Working Group as they took a look at the local impact of online radicalisation.
A paper produced by RAN Practitioners in 2021, provides a picture of risk assessment tools used in EU Member States both in the prison and security contexts.
It focuses on existing instruments, their content and how they are used at the moment.
The goals of such assessment and the challenges for the future in this field are also mentioned.

The latest issue of the RAN Practitioners Spotlight magazine takes a look at the challenges for European prisons.
The publication, which includes articles, interviews and case studies by RAN practitioners and Working Group leads, explores the radicalisation challenge in prisons, the importance of getting risks assessments right, training of prison staff and much more.
The latest episode of the Special Report takes a look at the nature of the practitioner environment in Europe today. The programme, which hears from three members of the RAN Practitioners network, touches upon the current P/CVE challenges, the capacity and capability of practitioners to tackle them, and the role of young people in P/CVE.

A recent episode of the RAN Practitioners podcast series, RAN in Focus, also takes a look at the nature of the practitioner environment in Europe today. The podcast hears from RAN practitioners and Working Group leads who share their views and insights on some of the challenges facing practitioners in their daily work.
The rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals convicted of terrorism-related offences remains one of the biggest security challenges facing EU Member States. The large numbers of individuals expected to be released from prisons back into society over the coming years brings this challenge into sharp focus. This issue of the RAN Practitioners Update therefore takes a look at the challenges facing prisons in Europe today. The Update includes the latest edition of the RAN Practitioners Spotlight magazine and introduces a new series of programmes, called ‘Event Reports’, which capture the thoughts and insights of practitioners at RAN Working Group meetings, including a meeting of the RAN PRISONS Working Group.
Engaging and Empowering Young People in P/CVE (06/09/2022)
A recent paper by RAN Practitioners provides insights for practitioners on why and how to engage and empower young people in preventing and countering violent extremism. The paper, which captures the thoughts of young people shared at a meeting of the RAN YOUNG platform in Athens in May 2022, outlines the areas of most interest to young people and where they can add value.
As part of a new series of programmes, called ‘Event Reports’, we travelled to Rome to attend a meeting of the RAN PRISONS Working Group, which looked at the issue of false or non-compliance in prisons.

As we mark the halfway point in the year, we are delighted to issue the 100th edition of the RAN Practitioners Update. As a digital newsletter, the Update is designed to provide members of RAN Practitioners with monthly updates on the latest activity of the network, highlighting upcoming events, promoting recently published papers and showcasing some of the projects and people at the heart of it. This Special Edition Update takes a look back, at some of the highlights from Updates in recent years. The RAN Collection contains more than 200 inspiring practices – namely practices and projects which have been developed and delivered by some of the people that make up the RAN Practitioners network. The RAN Collection, which is continuously updated and expanded with new innovative practices, is a convincing testimony to the progress that is being made in the field of P/CVE.

In early 2020, RAN introduced a new digital magazine, called ‘Spotlight’. The publication gives the platform to RAN Working Group leads, practitioners and other experts in P/CVE to share their views, insights and experiences on specific P/CVE challenges.

The View (16/08/2022)
In late 2020, RAN Practitioners launched a new programme called ‘The View’. The progamme brings together first-line practitioners, academics and Member State representatives to exchange views on some of the most relevant and timely P/CVE challenges of the day, and to scan the horizon at emerging challenges and potential threats in the future.
