Deadline:  18/02/2016

Objective

Under the REACH regulation, chemical substances identified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) may be included in Annex XIV of the Regulation (authorisation list) and become subject to authorisation. Such substances cannot be placed on the market or used after a given date, unless authorisation is granted for the specific use, or the use is exempted from authorisation. The European Commission takes the decision on inclusion of substances into Annex XIV on the basis of recommendation from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

For the purpose of decision-making related to the 7th recommendation, a call for information on socio-economic elements was carried out by ECHA, on behalf of the Commission, with the objective of gaining stakeholder and public input on the possible economic, social, health and environmental impacts (costs and benefits).

Period of the call

The call for information was open from 18 November 2015 to 18 February 2016 and is now closed.

Results

The Commission thanks all the participants. A brief summary of comments was presented to the meeting of EU Competent Authorities (CARACAL) on 1 July 2016 as a document for discussion. The document is not an exhaustive summary of the information received during the call for information but it provides an overview of most frequently raised issues.
