The aim of the study is to have a complete, up-to-date and concise overview on the competitiveness of the European mineral raw materials sector (MRMS), namely non-energy extractive industries (NEEI) and the related recycling industries (RI).

For this issue, it will collect and evaluate available data, assess the impact of economic, environmental and other policies on the performance of the industry in a global context, taking into account the difference between Member States with regard to access to land and timeframe of the administrative procedures. The role of research and innovation is also to be evaluated. For a strategic outlook, the study will carry out a SWOT analysis of the sub-sectors of the industry and suggest initiatives to the Commission, the Member States and the industry.
