CALL FOR IDEAS : the definition of potential GNSS R&D activities funded under Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the next Research and Development (R&D) framework programme of the European Union, to be launched in 2014 and covering the period 2014 – 2020. Within this programme, R&D activities shall be carried out in the frame of satellite navigation.

Deadline:  31/07/2013

UPDATE 07/07/2014 :
the final report is now available.

Irrespective of the final set up that will frame the GNSS-related R&D activities (topics eligible for funding in H2020, governance, budget), it is key to identify already by mid-2013 potential GNSS R&D activity areas which shall be funded by the H2020 programme and to develop a multi-annual strategic R&D programme concept.

However, this task cannot be adequately completed without having also considered the R&D actors' views together with their identified challenges and barriers for the evolution of European GNSS. Such a consultation, towards industries, research institutes and SMEs, should further help to correctly frame the H2020 GNSS programme, to deliver feedback from the R&D actors and push the sectors' priorities up to institution level, and to up-date the long-term EC R&D strategy.

In this context, the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission is launching a call for expression of ideas with the objective of gathering recommendations in satellite navigation R&D activities, with specific focus on Mission evolution, services, infrastructure and user technology.
These views will be of great help for the EC to design the R&D activities that will be supported by Horizon 2020, and to identify European capacities and weaknesses in this field.

Please note that this call for expression ideas does not present any commitment on the side of the Commission to provide funding for the proposed R&D topics.

The consultation takes the form of a questionnaire.

Please be assured your inputs will be treated confidentially.

The call for expression of ideas was open until 31 July 2013.

This is a unique opportunity to voice your opinion on the direction these R&D activities should take in the years to come.
