Commission seeks feedback on barriers to the integration of EU capital markets

On 15 April, the European Commission launched a consultation to gather feedback from a wide range of stakeholders on the obstacles to financial market integration across the EU, including barriers to cross-border trading and post-trading, scaling up of investment funds, and harmonising supervisory practices, as well as on simplification. The consultation is a key part of rolling out the savings and investments union (SIU) strategy announced on 19 March 2025, which aims to boost the EU economy by improving the way the EU financial system mobilises private capital towards productive investments, offering more and better financial opportunities for both citizens and businesses. The Commission is particularly interested in contributions from financial institutions and other markets participants, competent authorities, non-governmental organisations, think tanks, consumers, users of financial services and academics. Interested stakeholders are invited to submit their responses via the online questionnaire by 10 June 2025:

Separately, as part of the measures announced in the SIU strategy of 19 March, the Commission has set up a dedicated channel for all market participants to report any barriers to financial market integration encountered within the single market. This may include issues that hamper the seamless flow of cross-border capital, reduce the ease of doing business across the EU, or impose excessive red tape and complex regulatory settings. Both individuals and businesses are encouraged to signal any obstacles they experience at:
