Retail investment in Europe

On 18 July, Commissioner McGuinness gave a speech at the roundtable on the distribution of retail investment products. She began by talking about the problems with retail investment in Europe. Ms McGuinness underlined the fact that, although people in the EU save a lot, on the whole they don’t invest – and she looked at some of the reasons why. The Commissioner went on to talk about what the EU is doing to address some of the issues, in particular through the Retail Investment Strategy. And she said the roundtable could be the beginning of a reflection on how to create a dynamic retail investment culture in the EU.
