EU ESG benchmark Label

What? Study published on feasibility, minimum standards and transparency requirements of an EU ESG Benchmark label.

When? 09 February 2023

Why? Financial indices incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations surged by 43% between 2020 and 2021. This increase was driven by a shift in investors’ preferences towards ESG investing, as well as the growing relevance of passive investing strategies. However, the rapid growth and wide variety of ESG benchmarks in the market have also given rise to concerns of greenwashing/ESG-washing practices. The report sets out to identify and analyse possible approaches for the creation of minimum standards for an EU ESG Benchmark.
