High-level conference on the Capital Markets Union

Don’t miss the upcoming conference on ‘Capital Markets Union: investing for a stronger, prosperous and sustainable European Union’, which will take place on Wednesday 1 June in Brussels. It will be the opportunity to hear from Commissioners Mairead McGuinness and Paolo Gentiloni, Spain’s Vice President and Minister for Economy and Digitalization Nadia Calviño, MEPs Isabel Benjumea and Danuta Hübner, ESMA Chair Verena Ross, as well as industry participants and other high-level speakers. In a context marked by geopolitical tensions and the need to finance the green and digital transitions, panel sessions will look at how the rest of the world sees the CMU project, how to facilitate retail investment in the EU, and how to make capital markets more accessible to companies of all sizes and at all stages of their development. The conference – ‘Capital Markets Union: investing for a stronger, prosperous and sustainable European Union’ – will take place on Wednesday 1 June in Brussels. The main focus of the event will be the role of the Capital Markets Union (CMU) in supporting a stronger European Union and a more green, digital, inclusive and prosperous economy. At a moment when several CMU legislative proposals are on the co-legislators’ table, the high-level conference will also be an opportunity to take stock of what has already been achieved and to discuss the next deliverables.

Launch event for the new EU Digital Finance Platform

An online event on 8 April will mark the official launch of the EU Digital Finance Platform. The event will be opened by Mairead McGuinness, Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union (FISMA). Verena Ross, Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), will give the closing speech, and there will be a panel featuring high-level speakers representing industry and supervisors. The Commission has launched a targeted public consultation and a call for evidence on ways to improve the attractiveness of EU CCPs and reduce the EU’s exposure to systemic non-EU CCPs.
