'Beyond the Horizon: the Future of Financial Services'

On 3 November 2022, Commissioner McGuinness gave a speech at the Central Bank of Ireland Financial Services Conference on the future of financial services. Ms McGuinness began by underlining the fact that the financial system is going through a time of great change against a backdrop of economic and geopolitical challenges. She added that that despite this, the EU financial sector has proven to be resilient, thanks in no small part to the regulatory reforms put in place following the financial crisis. Ms McGuinness went on to talk about the work being done in a number of areas, notably completing the banking union and building a European capital markets union. She then touched on a number of the main areas of DG FISMA’s work, such as sustainable finance, retail investments, energy, payments, anti-money laundering and digital finance.
