'The nexus between energy markets and financial markets'

On 18 October 2022, Commissioner McGuinness gave the opening remarks (along with Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson) at the press conference presenting the new package of measures to fight high energy prices and ensure security of supply. She began by saying that the measures being proposed are targeted and time-limited, and will focus on easing the liquidity stress that some energy companies have faced in meeting their margin requirements, and on tackling the extreme price volatility on energy derivative markets. Ms McGuinness then goes on to set out the proposed measures in more detail, specifically on trading, collateral, and energy derivatives markets.
