Mortgage Credit Directive

What? The European Commission is carrying out a public consultation on the Mortgage Credit Directive review.

When? 22 November 2021-28 February 2022

Why? The Commission is seeking views on the current rules on mortgage credit, to assess how well they work and how they might be improved. The consultation will look at possible barriers to the cross-border provision of mortgages. It will also examine whether EU rules remain fit for purpose in light of new developments such as digitalisation and sustainable finance and the COVID-19 crisis. Given the strong consumer protection angle of the consultation, it will be available in 23 EU official languages.
