‘Financing a sustainable global recovery’

On 22 June 2021, Commissioner McGuinness gave a virtual keynote address at CityWeek 2021, about the EU’s financial services policy. Ms McGuinness began by stressing that, despite Brexit, the EU and the UK continue to share many common goals. She underlined the importance of sustainability, which she said is at the heart of all policy discussions. Ms McGuinness reiterated that leaving the EU means losing the benefits that EU membership offers. And she emphasised that the hard-fought agreement that has been reached between the EU and the UK will only work if the relationship is built on trust. The speech covered a number of other important issues, including the EU’s ‘open strategic autonomy’ agenda, the capital markets union and the European Green Deal.
