EU-funded projects to showcase their innovative solutions in digital water management at the ICT 2018 (27/11/2018)

Four EU funded projects will showcase their innovative solutions in digital water management at the ICT 2018 event in Vienna on 4-6 December 2018. SIM4NEXUS, SWSS, POWER and SPACE-O are financed with over €14 million by the Horizon 2020 and LIFE programmes. They are all members of the ICT4Water cluster, the hub for EU-funded research and innovation projects on ICT applied to water management.

Would you like to give your opinion about the re-use of plastic waste? FiberEUse, a Horizon 2020-funded project, has recently launched the "FiberEUse Idea Manager" platform. The users can provide feedback on the design of solutions elaborated within the project, also grading different alternatives. Europe’s eyes in the sky are helping to solve energy, land-use problems in Africa (27/11/2018)

Scientists have created a solar atlas of Egypt, revealing where the sun’s rays shine most brilliantly and where dust storms obstruct its light. And in Niger, forecasters are guiding pastoralists towards grazing areas and water sources – and away from conflict with sedentary farmers. EU-funded GEO-CRADLE and AfriCultuReS are helping to address pressing local and national problems.

Discarded waste could be a treasure trove of rare metals (27/11/2018)

Researchers are attempting to figure out how to recover metals that are in limited supply in Europe from material that is often dumped or used in low-grade applications. They hope this metal recovery will also help to reduce the impact of industry on the environment. The CHROMIC project is aiming to recover metals from waste and by-products that are already in the EU.
