Energy Efficiency: A Business Opportunity for SMEs (15/06/2016)
Whether by saving energy or by taking advantage of energy services offered by new business models, SMEs can improve their competitiveness. Recommendations to unlock long-term financing for energy efficiency in buildings, industry and SMEs, as published by the Energy Efficiency Financial Institution Group (EEFIG), will be presented. Measures to encourage SMEs to become more energy efficient will be highlighted in presentations from businesses (SMEs, including energy service companies) and other value chain actors (Chambers of Commerce and Industry, networks).
How to Boost Energy Efficiency in Today's Buildings: International Perspectives (15/06/2016)
With Europe's Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) currently under review and a proposal for a new Directive expected in 2016, this event looks at how other parts of the world, especially Japan, South Korea and the US, are dealing with energy efficiency in existing buildings and what the EU can learn from these countries. Speakers from around the world will present their global perspectives.
Consumers at the Core of the Energy Union – Successful Approaches to Engagement for Sustainable Energy (16/06/2016)
The seminar will showcase different consumer engagement strategies and allow for best practice exchanges between stakeholders. The strategies to be presented cover different approaches to engaging private consumers, ranging from direct engagement of students via inter-dormitory competitions to consumer engagement via collectives and group purchasing. Practical knowledge will meet with academic insight on behavioural change, featuring feedback mechanisms, marketing appeals, and drivers of energy efficient behaviour.

Want to raise public awareness on renewables and energy efficiency in your area? Then, submit a proposal for an event or an activity for the Energy Days! It’s a European Commission initiative designed to engage citizens and energy stakeholders to help build an Energy Union. They will take place in the month of June 2016 and the deadline for applying is on May 31st. You can organize a workshop, a competition or any other activity encouraging energy saving. The events can take place anywhere in Europe and do not have any time nor size limit.
Making energy retrofits a standardised product for the finance industry (22/03/2016)
In order to increase investors’ confidence in expected energy savings and reduce financing costs, energy renovation projects need standardised assessment protocols. The Investor Confidence Project (ICP) Europe, a Horizon 2020 funded project, has recently released 6 protocols for tertiary and residential buildings to define European best practices for predicting energy savings, optimising performance, and monitoring the results of energy efficiency investments.

The European Union is taking first steps to help European SMEs and start-ups fund recruitment of the best talent for research and innovation from around the world. The EU will fund the recruitment of post-doctoral research associates from other countries to explore an innovation business idea in the European SMEs and start-ups.
