Sustainable ICT solutions for our connected world

The continuous rise of mobile communications has transformed how we work, live and play. But the power needed to deliver this growing data infrastructure has an equally large carbon footprint.

Through 15 fellowships, the MSCA-funded GREENEDGE project aims to design energy-efficient technologies and combine them with the efficient management of ambient energy sources to reduce the impact of data services.

InnoNext internship scheme open to MSCA fellows

The InnoNext project provides opportunities for researchers to carry out internships in highly innovative companies supported by the EIC and EIT .

The scheme is open to doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships, Doctoral Networks and COFUND projects and will be undertaken as part of a new secondment in the MSCA project.

EU-funded project supporting researchers at risk launched

The European Commission has launched a new preparatory action supporting a European fellowship scheme for researchers at risk. This initiative backed by the European Parliament will develop procedures to assess the risks these researchers face and award around 60 two-year fellowships to non-EU nationals to enable them to continue their work safely at universities and research institutions across the European Union.

European Blue Schools Network

A European Blue School brings the ocean into the classroom. It is a school that, through project-based learning, engages students in topics related to the sea and oceans in order to raise awareness and give them a sense of responsibility for our oceans.

Understanding the influence of the ocean on us - humans - and our influence on the ocean is known as Ocean Literacy.

The EU4Ocean coalition, with the support of the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, brings together organisations, projects and individuals engaged in promoting ocean knowledge across Europe. The European Blue Schools Network is one of the three pillars of the coalition, established as a platform for all schools and teachers striving to engage students in oceanic topics and educate a new generation of young citizens educated on the oceans.

EU atomizers ⁇

Europe is home to an amazing variety of insects that pollinate crops and plants. These heroes ensure our food production and the preservation of biodiversity. They are therefore essential for a healthy nature and for our well-being. However, in recent decades, wild insect pollinators such as bees, butterflies, hoverflies and moths have drastically decreased in number and diversity in Europe. Many species are on the verge of extinction.

We can all do our part to protect these pollinating heroes by launching awareness campaigns about their importance and finding ways to protect their habitat.

In the Directorate-General for Environment, we have developed tools that can be used in the classroom or at home to help citizens protect these pollinators, such as a card game "Ken je pollinator" and a fun and educational VR experience, "Pollinator Park".

And there is much more educational material, including postcards, posters and videos!

The European Nature Conservation Toolkit

European nature is not only beautiful, but also of great importance to all of us. To help secondary school students understand why, the Directorate-General for the Environment has developed the European Nature Conservation Toolkit.

The toolkit provides tools and instructions for preparing and conducting indoor and outdoor activities.

GreenComp

Climate change and biodiversity loss require urgent action and long-term, systemic change in our attitudes, mindsets and habits. Education plays a crucial role in deepening our understanding of these issues, changing our behaviour and attitudes and achieving a fair, sustainable future. The European Commission, in collaboration with education experts from across Europe, has developed a competence framework to promote learning about sustainability in the EU. The document can serve a wide range of purposes, including curriculum development, self-reflection, and certification assessment.
