EU4Algae The Insider’s Perspective

To give visibility to EU4Algae members’ key research findings, business opportunities and innovations relevant to the algae industry, we are kicking off a dedicated section where we will be ‘giving the floor’ to all partners working in the industry to encourage them to share their projects and success stories and divulge them with the Algae community.

 
1st EU Algae Awareness Summit

The 1st EU Algae Awareness Summit took place from 5 to 7 October at the Oceanographic Institute in Paris. The event was co-organised by the European Commission, the French Government, and the Global Seaweed Coalition (UN Global Compact) with the support of the Oceanographic Institute, Prince Albert I of Monaco Foundation.

How LIFE is powering transport using green hydrogen

Road transportation is responsible for 21% of global carbon emissions, but hydrogen-powered vehicles can reduce them. This LIFE project is rapidly developing green hydrogen for road vehicles and mobile machinery.

EUR 396 million allocated under the LIFE Programme

The European Commission has announced EUR 396 million in funding for 171 new LIFE projects across Europe, including for the Clean Energy Transition sub-programme, mobilising a total investment of more than EUR 722 million.

 
First grant agreement under the Public Sector Loan Facility (PSLF) signed

The first grant agreement to the project ‘Socioeconomic Transition of Western Macedonia’ supported by PSLF, entered into force on 27 October 2023. The project will support financing sustainable investments worth EUR 80.7 million, helping Western Macedonia in its transition away from carbon intensive activities.

 
CINEA representatives at ESPO anniversary

On 7 November, Paloma and colleagues from Department B attended the 30th anniversary of ESPO - the European Sea Ports Organisation. The event also hosted the 15th edition of the ESPO Award. The winner was the North Sea Port, which was competing with 9 other projects under the “Nature restoration projects in ports benefitting the local community” theme. Congratulations to North Sea Port that won this year’s award!

 
Internal Communication survey results

The results of the first survey on the Agency’s approach to internal communication together with a set of follow-up actions are now available on CINEAnet. The overall satisfaction with internal communication at the Agency is high at 83.6%. Many thanks to all 183 colleagues who took the time to respond to the survey and provided comments and suggestions.

Unlocking the Ocean's wealth: EMFAF video

The purpose of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) is to enable sustainable fisheries and the conservation of marine biological resources, food security, the growth of a sustainable blue economy, and healthy, safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed seas and oceans. This new video presents the EMFAF programme and its priorities.

Horizon 2020 Climate: Comic artists respond to the climate crisis!

Three leading creators collaborated with the project CONSTRAIN to develop comics exploring the climate change challenge. All three comics highlight key messages from CONSTRAIN, including what the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C temperature goal means, why it matters, and how climate impacts increase and intensify with every fraction of a degree of warming.
