Second Meeting of the Technical Group on Sustainable Aquaculture – Black Sea SustAqua

The second meeting of the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea Technical Group on Sustainable Aquaculture took place online on 3 April 2024. Black Sea Success Story on Healthy Marine and Coastal Ecosystems. Meet “ANEMONE” Winner of the Black Sea Common Maritime Agenda Annual Stakeholder Conference Project Awards 2023 edition

The ANEMONE project emerged as the winner in the Healthy Marine and Coastal Ecosystems category at the Black Sea Project Awards during the Black Sea Stakeholder Conference 2023. It was also selected by the public as the 'winner of winners,' receiving the prize for the best Black Sea project. The primary objectives of the ANEMONE project included enhancing cross-border collaboration and research capacity to address issues such as pollution, eutrophication, and biodiversity loss in the Black Sea. First Steering Group Meeting in 2024 under the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea

The first Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea (CMA) Steering Group Meeting of 2024 took place in March in Brussels, with in-person participation from national coordinators representing Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Türkiye, and Ukraine. The meeting was chaired by Moldova, 2024 CMA coordinator, and saw participation from the European Commission, the European External Action Service, National Hubs, and regional observers, discussing the action plan of activities for the year.

 
EMFAF project to improve bluefin tuna management

We celebrated World Tuna Day on 2 May by promoting an EMFAF project managed by CINEA to improve control practices for bluefin tuna. The REM-BFT project is testing the use of Remote Electronic Monitoring on bluefin tuna processing vessels to enhance transparency in fisheries management.

Welcoming the new cohort of Young Energy Ambassadors

30 young professionals (aged 18 to 34) recently selected as Young Energy Ambassadors will be joining the European Sustainable Energy Week. Working in the clean energy field for a more sustainable future, they will now take up this role and share their perspectives and ideas on shaping the future of Europe’s energy landscape. Their interests and talents cover numerous topics: renewable energies, energy communities, electric vehicles, grids, architecture and economics, to name just a few. The new Commission guidelines on sustainable events has just been finalised and published by DG SCIC, with the purpose of helping staff organise more sustainable meetings and events, demonstrating that we ‘practice what we preach’.
