Down by 2.1% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU compared with January 2025

Overview

In January 2026, compared with December 2025, industrial producer prices increased by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In December 2025, industrial producer prices fell by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU.

In January 2026, compared with January 2025, industrial producer prices decreased by 2.1% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in January 2026, compared with December 2025, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 1.0% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 1.3% for energy,

  • increased by 0.6% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.8% for durable consumer goods,

  • decreased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.6%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.9% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 1.5% for energy,

  • increased by 0.5% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.8% for durable consumer goods,

  • decreased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.5%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Estonia (+13.7%), Bulgaria (+7.1%) and Finland (+6.9%). The largest decreases were observed in Cyprus (-0.9%), Czechia (-0.7%), Germany and Slovakia (both -0.6%).

In the euro area in January 2026, compared with January 2025, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 1.5% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 8.9% for energy,

  • increased by 1.6% for capital goods,

  • increased by 2.2% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.5% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.2%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 1.2% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 7.9% for energy,

  • increased by 1.4% for capital goods,

  • increased by 2.0% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.5% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.1%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Ireland (-6.9%), Luxembourg (-5.2%) and Denmark (-3.5%).The highest increases were observed in Estonia (+11.9%), Bulgaria (+11.7%) and Romania (+9.3%).

Revisions and timetable

Compared with data issued in the News Release of 4 February 2026, the monthly percentage decreases for December 2025 remained unchanged at -0.3% in the euro area (EA 20) and at -0.4% in the EU. The annual percentage decreases also remained unchanged at -2.1% in the euro area (EA 20) and at -1.9% in the EU.

Methods and definitions

The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic market, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not calendar day or seasonally adjusted.

Total industry covers NACE rev.2 sections B to D + E36.

Geographical information

Up to 31 December 2025, the euro area included Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland (EA20). From 1 January 2026, the euro area also includes Bulgaria (EA21).

The aggregate data series commented on in this Euro indicator release refer to the official composition of the euro area in the most recent month for which data are available. Thus, Euro indicator releases with data for months up to December 2025 comment on EA20 series, while releases with data for January 2026 onwards will comment on EA21 series.

The European Union includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden (EU27).
