Down by 2.1% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU compared with December 2024

Overview

In December 2025, compared with November 2025, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In November 2025, industrial producer prices grew by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU.

In December 2025, compared with December 2024, industrial producer prices decreased by 2.1% in the euro area and by 1.9% in the EU.

The annual average of industrial producer prices for the year 2025, compared with 2024, increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in December 2025, compared with November 2025, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.3% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 1.2% for energy,

  • decreased by 0.1% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.2% for durable consumer goods,

  • decreased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.1%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.3% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 1.3% for energy,

  • increased by 0.1% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.2% for durable consumer goods,

  • decreased by 0.2% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.1%.

The largest monthly decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Estonia (-3.0%), Ireland (-2.8%) and Denmark (-1.9%). The highest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+1.4%), Portugal (+0.5%), Belgium and Romania (both +0.4%).

In the euro area in December 2025, compared with December 2024, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.8% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 8.8% for energy,

  • increased by 1.7% for capital goods,

  • increased by 2.0% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.9% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.0%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.6% for intermediate goods,

  • decreased by 7.7% for energy,

  • increased by 1.6% for capital goods,

  • increased by 1.7% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 1.0% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.9%.

The largest annual decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Luxembourg (-5.6%), Ireland (-4.9%) and Portugal (-3.7%). The highest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+9.8%), Romania (+6.6%) and Sweden (+1.3%).

Revisions and timetable

Compared with data issued in the News Release of 8 January 2026, the monthly percentage increases for November 2025 have been revised from +0.5% to +0.7% in the euro area and from +0.6% to +0.8% in the EU. The annual percentage decreases have been revised from -1.7% to -1.4% in the euro area and from -1.3% to -1.1% in the EU.

Methods and definitions

The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic market, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not calendar day or seasonally adjusted.

Total industry covers NACE rev.2 sections B to D + E36.

Geographical information

Up to 31 December 2025, the euro area included Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland (EA20). From 1 January 2026, the euro area also includes Bulgaria (EA21).
The aggregate data series commented on in this Euro indicator release refer to the official composition of the euro area in the most recent month for which data are available. Thus, Euro indicator releases with data for months up to December 2025 comment on EA20 series, while releases with data for January 2026 onwards will comment on EA21 series.

The European Union includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden (EU27).
