Manufacturing refers to all activities in Section D of NACE Rev. 1.1, including both cottage industries (crafts) and large-scale industrial production. It should be noted that the use of heavy plant equipment or machinery is not exclusive to manufacturing.
Manufacturing includes the production of:
- food, drinks and tobacco;
- textiles;
- leather and leather goods;
- paper and paper products, including printing and publishing;
- timber and wooden furniture;
- chemicals;
- artifical fibres;
- rubber and plastics;
- non-metallic mineral products;
- metal products.
Excluded are:
- mining and extraction;
- building and civil engineering;
- energy and water.
