Eduard Janota was appointed Czech Minister of Finance on 8 May 2009.

Mr. Janota started his professional career as an officer at the Statistics and Analysis Department of the Czech State Insurance Company. He has worked for the Ministry of Finance since 1979, in the government budget area. In 1992 he became Director of the government budget department. He was Deputy Minister of Finance for Budget from August 1999 to September 2006, and from January 2007 to May 2009.

Mr. Janota is an economist and prominent expert in budget policy and public finances. He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration of the Prague University of Economics in 1975, and earned a PhD from the Faculty of Finance in 1979.
