André Sapir

André Sapir is Professor of Economics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where he teaches international trade and European integration at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management and at the Institute of European Studies.

He is also Senior Fellow of Bruegel, the Brussels European and Global Economic Laboratory and Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

Mr. Sapir is a member of Commission President José Manuel Barroso’s Economic Advisory Group. Prior to that, he spent twelve years at the European Commission, first serving as Economic Advisor to the Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs, then as Economic Advisor to President Romano Prodi (2001-2004), and finally as Executive Director of Prodi's Economic Advisory Group.

He was Chairman of the High-Level Study Group appointed by President Prodi that produced in 2003 the report An Agenda for a Growing Europe, known as the Sapir Report, which was published by Oxford University Press in 2004.

André Sapir has written extensively on various aspects of globalisation and European integration.

He holds a PhD in Economics from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
