Sally Broughton Micova

Sally Micova

Sally Broughton Micova is an internationally recognised specialist in media and communications policy. Her work draws on fundamental rights, notions of harm, and normative understandings of the role of media and communication technologies in society, particularly in democracy and politics. She maintains research interest in questions about media freedom and pluralism, platform power, and freedom of expression.

Sally joined UEA in September 2015 and currently teaches modules on media and cultural policy, political communication, and research methods. She is a member of UEA's Centre for Competition Policy (CCP). She completed her PhD in 2013 at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Before entering academia in 2009 she spent more than a decade in international organisations running media related projects in Southeast Europe. She continues to serve as an occasional expert for the EU and the Council of Europe (CoE), as well for regulatory authorities in various countries.

She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Academic Co-Director at the Centre for European Regulation (CERRE) in Brussels, and Chair of the Communications Law and Policy Section of the European Communications Research and Education Association.
