What's new: eDelivery updates from last half of 2024

Over the past six months, eDelivery has been present in various events around from discussing the market for eDelivery-conformant solutions, new profile specifications to the implementations of eDelivery in digital ecosystems, eDelivery in Peppol, Simpl and beyond. In addition, with the support of our dedicated community members from the Informal Cooperation Network and the Interoperability Forum, we continue to enhance the Building Block, making digital communication in Europe more efficient and secure.

This is a short summary of updates from the events in the first half of 2024.

Interoperability Forum

The eDelivery Interoperability Forum is a platform where solution providers and technical experts come together to discuss updates and new features in eDelivery specifications. Active community involvement is the key here. This year, during already two Interoperability Forum meetings and an additional Interoperability Event, we focused on the implementation of the eDelivery 2.0 profiles.

Interoperability Forum meetings

On 29 February, key topics included feedback from the 2023 public consultation on AS4 and SMP 2.0 profiles, cryptography changes in the AS4 profile, and the introduction of 2.0 profiles for BDXL and ebCore Party Id.

On 18 April, the meeting summarised the second public consultation on the eDelivery profile 2.0 specifications. On top of that, we introduced the OOTS digital ecosystem and presented the new eDelivery-conformant solutions listing on our website.

Interoperability Event sessions

On 11 June, the eDelivery Interoperability Event focused on testing the new cryptography in the 2024 draft of the eDelivery AS4 profile 2.0 specifications. The session was highly engaging, with participants contributing valuable insights. The next session is scheduled for 25 June and will continue testing new AS4 implementations. Participants are required to register and provide digital certificates. These remote sessions allow AS4 solutions to exchange simple messages for testing purposes. A comprehensive report will follow the event.

Informal Cooperation Network

The eDelivery Informal Cooperation Network (ICN) is a collaborative platform involving Member States representatives. This network facilitates the exchange of information, updates and best practices related to eDelivery implementation. The ICN meetings provide a forum for discussing the latest developments, monitoring progress and ensuring the adoption of eDelivery standards and solutions across various sectors. We hold two ICN meetings a year.

On 15 May, the ICN meeting provided key updates on eDelivery products and services, and included presentations on Peppol and Simpl. As always, Member State representatives discussed their eDelivery implementation progress, showcasing various national projects.

The next ICN meeting is tentatively planned for 19 November, to be held both on-site in Brussels and remotely, but this date is subject to change depending on other events involving ICN members on the same week.

DomiSMP video series

On 19 March, we have published a new series of videos on DomiSMP, eDelivery's sample SMP software implementation. Hosted by our software engineer Jože Rihtaršič, these videos cover key concepts of Dynamic Discovery, including setting up a secure Dynamic Delegation Discovery System infrastructure, using the Dynamic Discovery Client and deploying DomiSMP as a Spring Boot application. The series also provides insights into the DomiSMP user interface.

This autumn, we are planning to release a similar video series on Domibus.

eDelivery presented in the OpenPeppol's eInvoicing and eReporting Conference

On 30 May, eDelivery has been presented the OpenPeppol eInvoicing and eReporting Conference. eDelivery officer highlighted the Building Block's close cooperation with this large ecosystem.

The eDelivery presentation at this year's OpenPeppol conference highlighted the building block's close cooperation with this large ecosystem. eDelivery's Service Metadata Locator (SML) service is today still part of the Peppol network critical infrastructure, ensuring secure, scalable and reliable document exchange across borders. eDelivery at SEMIC

On 27 June, our team, including Marcio Sampaio, Bogdan Dumitriu, and Monika Kokštaitė, will participate in the SEMIC conference in Brussels.

SEMIC focuses on making digital public services work together smoothly. Featuring talks on the latest trends, challenges and innovations in public sector interoperability make it a perfect place for us to highlight the benefits of eDelivery.

Our team, at the booth with representatives of the other Building Blocks, will answer question and promote upcoming eDelivery events. It is once again a great platform to show how eDelivery helps with secure and efficient data exchange across Europe.

eDelivery Building Block

eDelivery is a Building Block provided by the European Commission, offering technical specifications, installable software and services for secure digital data exchange across a network of nodes.

The eDelivery specifications include the eDelivery AS4 profile, an open technical specification ensuring secure, payload-agnostic and reliable data exchange; the eDelivery SMP profile, designed for publishing service metadata within a 4-corner network; the eDelivery BDXL profile, which enables locating Access Points within the network; and the eDelivery ebCore Party ID profile, a technical specification for the recommended notation for party addressing.
