New version of the Architecture and Reference Framework now available

Version 1.6 of the Architecture and Reference Framework (ARF) is now available on Github. The document sets out the common architecture of the EU Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem by specifying the standards, protocols and formats of information exchanges between issuers, wallets, and service providers. It has been updated with the five initial implementing regulations adopted so far.

What has changed?

Version 1.6 contains various minor changes following the changes of version 1.5, which expanded detail on data models (chapter 5), trust models (chapter 6), and certification and risk management (chapter 7).

This was in addition there is an entirely new sub-chapter on Wallet Secure Cryptographic Devices (WSCD) (chapter 4.5).

Many of the updates were made in response to feedback on ARF version 1.4, with:

  • Over 150 comments submitted on Github
  • More than 300 comments provided by Member States via Confluence
  • Over 80 comments from internal feedback on developments, insights, and document consistency
