EU Digital Identity Wallet milestone reached as Commission adopts implementing regulations

|

A milestone has been reached in the European Digital Identity Wallets project, as the European Commission has adopted five implementing regulations laying down rules for the core functionalities and certification of European Digital Identity Wallets under the European Digital Identity Framework.

What are the adopted implementing regulations?

Four of the adopted implementing regulations set out uniform standards, specifications, and procedures for the technical functionalities of the wallets, such as data formats required for the cross-border use of digital documents and measures to ensure the reliability and security of the wallets.

Thanks to these uniform standards Member States will be able to develop secure and privacy-enhancing wallets that are interoperable and accepted across the European Union.

The fifth implementing regulation establishes specifications and procedures to build a robust framework for the certification of European Digital Identity Wallets, ensuring that every wallet is secure and protects the privacy and personal data of users.
