Description of dataset

The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) is an enterprise survey which is part of the EU statistics on lifelong learning. The survey aims at comparable statistical information on continuing vocational training in enterprises and covers the following topics:

  • Continuing vocational training, skills supply and demand, training needs
  • Measurement of the forms, contents and volume of continuing training
  • The enterprises own training resources and the use of external training providers
  • The costs of continuing training
  • Initial vocational training

CVT surveys were carried out for the reference years 1993, 1999, 2005 and 2010. The next wave is planned for the reference year 2015.

What is available?

CVTS microdata is available on CD-ROM (scientific use file) for the reference years 2005 (CVTS 3) and 2010 (CVTS 4).

CVTS 3 (reference year 2005)

In 2005, 27 EU Member States and Norway implemented the survey. Data of the following 19 countries are available in the CVTS 3 microdata file: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Spain, France, Cyprus, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom and Norway.
 
CVTS 3 covers enterprises with 10 or more employees in industry and services (mainly). The detailed coverage according to NACE Rev 1.1 categories is: C, D (15-16, 17-19, 21-22, 23-26, 27-28, 29-33, 34-35, 20+36+37), E, F, G (50, 51, 52), H, I (60-63, 64), J (65-66, 67), K+O.

CVTS 4 (reference year 2010)

In 2010, 27 EU Member States and Norway implemented the survey. Data of the following 22 countries are available in the CVTS 4 microdata file: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom and Norway.

CVTS 4 covers enterprises with 10 or more employees in the business economy (mainly). The detailed coverage according to NACE Rev 2 categories is: B, C10-C12, C13-C15, C17-C18, C19-C23, C24-C25, C26-C28+C33, C29-C30, C16+C31-C32, D-E, F, G45, G46, G47, H, I, J, K64-K65, K66, L+M+N+R+S.
