Webinar: Career guidance and awareness raising on apprenticeships as the first choice

The 9th EAfA webinar organised by the Apprenticeship Support Service will explore the idea of apprenticeships as a first choice. It will explore how this can be facilitated through career guidance and lifelong guidance.

This webinar will be hosted by Senior Experts, Andrew McCoshan and Paul Guest. Together, they will share insights on different guidance delivery models and approaches and will highlight relevant European policies and frameworks that are in place to support the promotion of apprenticeships. Cynthia Harrison from Cedefop will also provide an insight into recent developments in career and lifelong guidance provision in light of COVID-19.

Participants will be introduced to the latest policy priorities and frameworks, will hear of different models of career and lifelong guidance and will be presented with practical examples of how apprenticeships are promoted as a first choice to those involved in making future career choices.

About the Speakers

Andrew McCoshan is a Senior Expert in VET and Director of Plexus Research & Consulting. He has spent almost all of his 30-year career as a researcher and consultant in the field, contributing to or leading numerous European and international projects.

He is currently a Senior Expert helping to deliver the EC’s Apprenticeship Support Service and external consultant to the VET Working Group coordinated by the European Commission, which focuses on digitalisation and innovation. He is also a Senior Research Associate and Visiting Researcher at the Educational Disadvantage Centre at Dublin City University.

Paul Guest is a Senior Expert who has spent the last 30 years working to support developments in education, training and guidance, at national and European levels. Having started his career in the UK guidance sector, including a pivotal role in establishing Euroguidance, Paul spent five years working in Brussels, helping to deliver the European Commission’s higher education and vocational training programmes.

Paul now operates as an independent consultant, working on behalf of a broad range of clients including Scottish Government, the European Commission and many of the national agencies tasked with financing Erasmus+ mobility and development partnerships.
