Description of the Organisation:
Bertelsmann is a media, services and education company that operates in about 50 countries around the world. It includes the broadcaster RTL Group, the trade book publisher Penguin Random House, the magazine publisher Gruner + Jahr, the music company BMG, the service provider Arvato, the Bertelsmann Printing Group, the Bertelsmann Education Group, and Bertelsmann Investments, an international network of funds. The company has 117,000 employees and generated revenues of €17.1 billion in the 2015 financial year. Bertelsmann has a long tradition in training apprentices. Bertelsmann started its private vocational college in 1962. The Bertelsmann vocational school plays an important role within the dual training programme and is a unique feature of an internationally operating company. Practical and theoretical training are conducted in parallel every week. The theoretical training consists of 12 hours of instruction in the Private School for Business and Technology. On average, the apprentice experience seven placements in different departments and divisions. They usually spend three to six months in the various departments. In 2016 in Germany alone, Bertelsmann and its divisions provided training in 41 recognized training programmes to 946 apprentices. Dual vocational apprenticeships exist also in UK and Spain.
