Under the renewed EAfA Action Plan 2020−2021, the Alliance encourages Member States to foster the development of apprenticeship coalitions as part of its commitment to promote quality and effective apprenticeships. Incentivising stakeholder partnerships to better address the current labour market needs has also been pivotal in the implementation of the Pact for Skills under the European Skills Agenda.

More than 180 people from 35 countries subscribed in advance to watch the September webinar, which discussed how apprenticeship programmes can be scaled nationwide or in a regional context, and how apprenticeship coalitions can help foster apprenticeships and build inclusive economies and partnerships.

The webinar began with an introduction from Tamas Varnai from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, who presented the results of the EAfA apprenticeship coalition survey

The webinar continued with successful examples of apprenticeship coalitions from Belgium, Denmark and Spain. Speakers shared good practice examples and lessons learnt from their organisations, as well as key challenges they have faced, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar included the following presentations:

  • Alianza para la FP dual: Improving Dual VET Quality in Spain (Guillem Salvans, Senior Project Manager at Fundación Bertelsmann, Spain);
  • Flemish Partnership on Dual Learning (Carl Lamote, Policy Officer at the Department of Education and Training, Belgium);
  • Dual VET Dynamization Network in Galicia (Irene Derungs Ollero, Advisor to the Secretary-General for Vocational Education and Training in the region of Galicia, Spain);
  • Danish Vocational Education: Local Training Committees (Torben Schuster, Chief Consultant at the Department for Vocational and Adult Education at the Danish Ministry of Children and Education, Denmark).
